Prince George Crane Operator Classes - Crane operator training is for operators and supervisors of overhead lifting machinery. The course is suitable for both current and new operators. Course content addresses relevant provincial, state and federal safety regulations. The first component of training consists of comprehensive in-class lessons and examination. Following that is a customized hands-on session with practical instruction and evaluation.
The content of the course applies to all types and categories of overhead lifting crane equipment. The instruction would particularly focus on all aspects of crane operation that can be done at the trainee's workplace. Upon completing the course, trainees would know how to operate specific overhead lifting devices, related components and attachments efficiently and safely.
The purpose of the operator course is to identify any potentially dangerous habits which an operator might develop when operating an overhead crane. Costly damage to products and equipment can be prevented with correct habits. Training reduces the chance of a workplace injury or incident occurring.
The course would encompass about eight hours of classroom instruction with a couple of hours of customized, on-site, hands-on training. Participants will be graded on their knowledge of training material through an evaluation of their practical knowledge and written testing. The minimum acceptable score is 80%.
The in-class session, the trainee would be taught about causes of damages and occurrences, legislation and guidelines, hazard awareness, internal responsibility, capacity ratings/load weight calculations, design principles and basic equipment, safe hosting/operating methods, pre-shift equipment inspections, equipment applications/rigging, kinds of hardware, angles and hitches, operator/pedestrian safety, turning/flipping loads safely, hand signals for slingers and operators.
The practical training and evaluation part of the course must be pre-scheduled. This customized part of the training will be held at the trainees' facility. The duration of this practical training component is one to two hours. Two operators at a time would be trained by the instructor on skills like for example correct rigging practices, safe operation and planning the lift.
Upon finishing the practical operating instruction and evaluation and the in-class instruction, the trainee will write an exam. Signed safety rules would be required from each participant. Trainees who are successful would be provided with individual wallet certificates. The company will be given a framed wall certificate.
