After retiring in the late 1960's, John L. Grove set out on a cross country RV expedition. After spending numerous years establishing his family built crane business with his brother, John had no idea that this trip would bring about the rise of JLG Industries, Inc. The world leader of mobile aerial work platforms and precision materials handling equipment was the end result of a road trip.
Whilst on their journey, John spent time conversing with past business acquaintances whom the Groves stopped to visit along the way. These conversations combined with a tragic occurrence two workers being electrocuted on scaffolding when the Groves were traveling to the Hoover Dam John uncovered a substantial market for a product that could swiftly and securely elevate people in the air to accomplish maintenance and other building functions.
Following their return from vacation, John set up a business with two of his friends and bought a metal fabricating company in McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania. Opening with a small crew of twenty personnel, they fashioned and sold their first JLG aerial work platform in 1970. The company incorporates some of the simple design elements of that original lift into current designs.
JLG forklifts have come a long way since Mr. John L. Grove came back to town from his cross-country road trip and since the first aerial work platform debuted on the market. These days, the company proudly continues to expand itself into many markets globally and develops new products to make certain consumers are capable of being more effective and perform in the workplace within a safer environment.
